@TracyQuanNYC Good initiative. It's similar to traditional practice in some Muslim societies. In Egypt, for example, there are so-called Tables of the Merciful where the poor or any passerby can break their fast free of charge.

Plot twist. Academics who wrote paper about how Artificial Intelligence is making plagiarism harder to detect... used AI to write the paper. Reviewers did not spot the hand of AI, thereby proving the researchers' point. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence theguardian.com/technology/20…

Homosexuality is incomparably more common in the animal world than prayer is, yet you don't hear bigots and fanatics demanding the banning of prayer because it's "unnatural".

20 years later, I remember every detail. The fear, hope, anxiety, the tears, laughs, and trauma. The invasion of Iraq defined me and shaped my life. The survivor’s guilt still taunts me. For @newlinesmag newlinesmag.com/first-person/…

As a species, we are empathetic enough to anthropomorphise human characteristics on to non-human machines and conceited enough to hold the anthropocentric belief that there will always be something essentially human that can't be replicated or surpassed by a machine.

London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, switched on the city's first-ever #Ramadan light display on Piccadilly Circus, and the reaction from rightwing trolls was all too predictable. No, this is not an omen of Londonistan but a sign of vibrant multiculturalism chronikler.com/travel/londoni… twitter.com/SadiqKhan/stat…

Ramadan is meant to be about self-discipline and stamina, yet some individuals and societies feel they must force people who aren't fasting to not eat or drink in public If your will is so weak that you can't stand someone else eating or drinking, maybe you shouldn't be fasting

Why this event should rile conservatives so much is literally beyond belief. Faith is, after all, a private matter. Nobody has the right to appoint themselves gatekeepers to a religion. In a secular society, nobody has the right to force their beliefs and prejudices onto others.

As if #Ramadan isn't lonely enough for LGBTQ Muslims, a queer iftar in Antwerp where they could get together and break bread has been cancelled because the organisers could not guarantee a safe space after multiple threats. Solidarity with queer Muslims everywhere. #Ramadan2023
